Output mediums are constantly changing and they have changed a lot in a few short space of time, I have researched how they have changed and I will write it in this blog.
The output mediums that i will be showing the development of: printers, monitors and mobile phones.
Mobiles
The first mobile telephones were barely portable compared to
today's compact hand-held devices. Drastic changes have taken place in the
networking of wireless communication and the prevalence of its use. Telephones
were written about in books before they came out. Mobile phones have changed a
lot over the years. When they first came out they were just portable rather than
handheld as they were using radio transitions then in the 1970s the first hand
held phone came out.
The first additional feature that came on a phone after would have been text messages. Then slowly in 2000 the first camera phone came out. It was sold in Japan. Then after that MMS came out and then everything else such as calendars and Internet on mobiles. Smart phones became more popular as Facebook and other social networking came in.
Smart phones have become everything for people as you can do multiple things on it, such as Alarms, Appointments, Calendars, MP3 Player, Video, Camera etc..
The mega pixels have developed over the years on phones. The
cameras used to be very poor when camera phones first came out. The latest
phone camera mega pixel would be the Nokia Lumia 1020 with a huge 41 mega
pixels. The higher the mega pixels the sharper and better quality the photo
will be when printing it out.
This is a video showing the evolution of phones up until 2008
Printers
After that the first high speed printer was developed in 1953 by Remington-Rand for use on the Univac computer. The technology from these printers are used in printers these days.
Laser Jet printers usees laser beam technology that rapidly produces high quality text and graphics. The image is transferred to paper through charged toner which is then heated to permanently fix the image to paper.
Bluetooth was introduced to printers to make printing easier for people to just Bluetooth their photos to get printed off with ease without wires. This technology was needed because of smart phones and tablets being introduced that you cannot wire up to a printer.
The latest printer technology is the 3D printer. It is now possible to print out 3D objects. There was an incident where someone had cancer and was left with a big hole in their face and was unable to eat and drink properly. They then scanned the non-disfigured half of his face into the 3D scanner in order to recreate the side of his face that had been removed. This is a prime example of the good that advancing technology can do. The graphical capabilities are very advanced because they are able to scan in skin and they can scan in every little detail and print it off exactly the same. The texture will also be printed off the same.
Computer Monitors
Computer monitors have advanced a lot. The first screens that came out used cathode ray tubes which are vacuum tubes containing a minimum of one electron gun and a fluorescent screen used to view images. Up until the 1980s they were known as video display terminals and they were physically attached to the keyboard and computer. The images were poor quality and in monochrome. The images flickered as well.
The next computers that came out was the Commodore 64. These were introduced to schools. These had very basic graphics. Early computers would use floppy discs instead of now days we use memory sticks The keyboards were separated from the monitor which was a new thing compared to the cathode ray tubes computers.
LCD (liquid crystal display) monitors are used mostly these days. They are very slim and are classed as flat screens. They don't need the big backing because they use different technology from the CRT (cathode ray tubes). LCD monitors are more energy efficient and can be disposed of more safely than a CRT monitor. Thye are made up with any number of segments filled with liquid crystals. LCDs were first discovered in 1888 but by 2008 they were on the market. The LCDs exceeded the amount of sales than the CRT monitors. Since the LCD monitors came out CBT arn't used vastly.
Modern day computers now have flat screens and they use different technology compared to the older computers that had a huge back to the monitor. Nowadays, the latest computer monitors are touchscreen.
